Cara Delevingne quits modeling: It made me ‘hate’ myself and my body   //     Angelina   //     19 Aug 2015

The eyebrows, the mile-long stare — those were a few of the things that made Cara Delevingne a supermodel. But with a burgeoning movie career and a permanent spot on Taylor Swift’s BFF squad, Delevingne tells The Times (via People) that she is giving up the runway life for good.

She told the London-based magazine:

“I am not doing fashion work any more, after having, like, psoriasis and all that stuff. Modeling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn’t make me grow at all as a human being. And I kind of forgot how young I was … I felt so old.”

Delevingne, who is 23 now, has been modeling for six years now, but doesn’t have many good things to say about the fashion industry. The extreme stress of the job caused her to develop severe psoriasis, a chronic skin condition that made her feel more isolated in the industry. “People would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought it was, like, leprosy or something,” she said about her condition.

She added:

“I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge. It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse.”

Delevingne, who has previously called out the media and Hollywood for sexism and calls herself “a bit of a feminist,” said she was sickened by the provocative poses that she and other young models were often told to make by the fashion industry.

“It’s horrible and it’s disgusting … (These are) young girls. You start when you are really young and you do, you get subjected to … not great stuff.”
